John Austin Ltd is a family owned and operated Agricultural Contracting business, located in the heart of the Waikato. We as a company focus on providing value for our customers through quality workmanship, timely service, and trust. John Austin Ltd regularly invests in the latest cutting-edge technology, to drive greater efficiency and accurate delivery of pasture and crop management.

We employ a number of managers each responsible for key areas of our operation as well as admin staff, mechanics and of course our all-important drivers in the field. All our staff are required to adhere to the highest Worksafe and environmental care practices.

Our two busiest seasons in the year are Spring – September to December; and
Autumn – February to May. We work longer hours during these months to complete planting and harvest.

The key features of the role include:

  • Daily supervising and hands-on working with workshop staff and drivers, carrying out machinery repairs and maintenance and liaising with the management team and M.D.
  • Co-ordinating and directing the workload of the service department for maximum efficiency and productivity – careful planning re sequencing repairs and equipment preparation to ensure timely readiness of machines
  • Liaising with vendors, procurement of goods and services, budget and cost controls, following internal reporting systems, liaising with Accounts and Workshop Admin
  • A commitment to Health and Safety procedures, the implementation and recording required to run a safe business
  • Ability to work longer hours during the seasons

We are looking for experienced tractor drivers for our Waikato based Agricultural Contracting business. We are currently seeking operators for a wide range of seasonal Agricultural driving positions beginning September 2020 through to May 20201.

We are also specifically looking for a Planter driver We need someone who is keen to use the latest technology for planting and seed drilling. This would become a permanent position to the person who can prove they have the required skills.
Successful applicants will have some heavy Agricultural machinery experience and:

  • The appropriate licences (Minimum of NZ Class 2 or equivalent)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Respect our equipment, our customers and their property
  • Be reliable, trustworthy and punctual
  • Have a high work ethic, perform tasks as instructed to a high standard and show initiative
  • Be able to work unsupervised and safely
  • Be flexible with hours worked and overtime
  • Enjoy being part of a great team
  • Applicants should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, and a clean driving record.

Seasonal positions available now for trustworthy and responsible Truck Drivers.
Class 5 License preferred.
Class 4 considered.

You will need to have:

  • Experience in Agricultural spraying.
  • Maturity, reliability and excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility and commitment to work extended hours as necessary.
  • A Heavy Traffic license.
  • Self-motivation with practical maintenance and some engineering skills.

Duties include delivering diesel and grass seed to drivers out in the field, operating the weigh bridge, tidying up and maintaining the depot yard, general support where needed and support for  the Agricultural Contracting team as a whole.

You will need:

  • A full and clean driver’s Licence
  • Be physically fit and able as there will be some lifting required
  • Good knowledge of the local district would be helpful
  • To be willing and available to work longer hours if required
  • To be honest and reliable

This is a seasonal position at this stage, however, to the right person it could become a permanent job.
